Product worked great – slid the chip into my Garmin and put 2000 miles on the rental car driving around Ireland.

Complaint – NO instructions or help information in with the product.

Amazon had a great price for this chip. It was approximately half the price on the Garmin site. The GPS did recalculate occasionally, but this was not a big issue. This beat the heck out of trying to read a map of the tiny little roads in the irish coutryside (with surprisingly fast speed limits). I recommend this product.

4 Stars Plug & Play for Ireland
We recently went to Ireland for 7 days and relied upon our Garmin as we toured in a rental car. The roads are not always well-marked and the UK/Ireland Plug & Play saved the day more than once. Be aware that there are times you wind up “recalculating” more than you want, and some of the newest motorways are not on this version but all-in-all money well spent!

5 Stars My Ireland trip
I just got back from my trip in Ireland. I was a little worried that this chip would get lost in some of the remote Irish areas. Luckily, I was wrong. I went to, and everything in between, Limerick City, Kilkenny, Ferbane, Galway City, Clifden, Westport, & Drumshanbo. In total, I drove 974.5 km (?? in miles) and I didn’t get lost once (ok, I missed one turn). You have to keep 2 things in mind – there are new highways/roads in the process of being built and address’ are very vague in Ireland – don’t fault the chip for that.

I considered this chip more useful and valuable than my passport. If I didn’t have this, I would have been up a creek. It’s also useful when walking through a city like Galway, instead of holding a gigantic map in front of you. Plus, you can zoom in on a town or city and see points of interest (hotels, eating, attractions, etc.).

No regrets and plenty of great memories thanks to this chip. Skip the paper maps. You’ll get around and find your way with this thing.

5 Stars Worked Well for Us
Just as advertised, you pop the SD card into the SD slot on your Garmin, and lo and behold, suddenly you can see all the streets in the entire UK (England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales… am I missing anything?). Someone commented that they thought their Garmin was a little slower when reading the maps from the card instead of the internal memory – that may be true, but I couldn’t really tell since we were moving so slowly that it kept up with our needs.

3 Stars BUYER BEWARE: MEXICO MAPS VERY VERY SPARSE
We just received this GPS. We ordered this specific GPS because it has maps of Mexico. HOWEVER . . . While a fine GPS that seems to function just as it should, and this GPS does indeed have what GPS maps for Mexico are available — BUYER BEWARE! . . . Garmin’s maps of Mexico are SPARSE. We’ll be staying on the Riviera Maya in a touristy town listed in every guidebook — it’s not even ON the GPS map! We were hoping to take the with us so that we could day-trip and explore — not going to be possible this way!

So, just know what you’re buying. We thought we did. Oh well.

5 Stars Nice GPS for Cheap!!!
I want to further comment on the Nuvi 200. I just received this as a X-mas gift and am very happy with it. Great unit for such a great price. I think the best feature is the ‘recalculate’ feature. When putting in an address and make a wrong turn, the Nuvi is great and FAST at recalculating directions within a second or two once making a wrong turn. I was surprised for a $100 unit, how incredibly quick it got me turned around and/or found a new route to my destination.

4 Stars Great Product for this Price
After using it for several month, I am satisfied with this product. However, the only downside has to be the acquiring satellite time, which can take up to 10 mins especially during weekends. If you don’t mind sitting inside your car waiting for a signal during hot summer or cold winter, then this is a great product for you. On the other hand, a TOMTOM GPS usually takes less than 30 secs to acquire satellite. Nevertheless, the TOMTOM does very bad in telling directions (When I say very bad, I meant it). Overall, I think this small GPS indeed worth the original price. After using both Garmin GPS and TOMTOM GPS, I would recommend the Garmin ones because they are dsigned to give drivers an accurate dirction, which TOMTOM GPS falls way behind.

P.S. The car mount that included in this package was very easy to use and I loved it!

4 Stars Works Well, Simple, Cheap, Portable, Refurb
Needed GPS for occasional use – most have fixed batteries don’t want too much committed. Had seen my son use his and went after the least-expensive model. It does quite well, generally finding satellites in a couple of minutes outside, especially if you had let it track to where you now are. Doesn’t come with printed manual (not even when new), but can download PDF from Garmin – it has a “quick-start” leaflet. Registering it with Garmin got an immediate, free F/W update. Device attaches to computer (and charges) through normal mini-USB cord, showing as storage device. Update was a bit of a problem because device did not have enough free memory. It seemed to not be able to use the SD card I had added, so deleted a number of other language files: Finish, Norwegian, etc. which freed enough to work. Don’t know what happens in future updates. Away from charging, battery lasts a couple of hours.

If you deviate from route it furnished, it first warns and tries to get you back to it, but then starts recalculating without manual intervention, accomodating what you may have chosen from better knowledge.

I like the voice prompts, my son doesn’t. Generally position it on gear-shift console and bring it in out of the cold. Suggest you use it oven known routes to get yourself familiar with device before you really need it! If it’s being handled, lock it so touching the screen doesn’t modify your settings. Seems capable of only one Waypoint (Viapoint) per destination.

This is a great carrying case for my Garmin GPS. I really love the pink lining, which makes it much easier to find inside my purse. I would have liked the case to be about 1/2″ longer. My GPS hangs out about that far, and that part of the screen isn’t protected. But, it helps with removing the GPS from the case. Aside from the length, it does what I need it to do, and I’m happy with it.

As with at least one other reviewer, found this to be incompatible with a C-series Garmin: c530. Now need to get refund, return, on a $20 item, as a consequence of a marketing hotshot’s inattention to specifications.

3 Stars You don’t need it
I don’t know why you would need this. We ordered it and only used it one time. After figuring out how to use our Garmin we discovered that our model does not hold a charge, thus we cannot carry it around and use it. To use it as a GPS, it has to be in a car and plugged into the outlet there. You wouldn’t really have a need to have your GPS plugged in at your home, because it isn’t moving and cannot function.

1 Star Glorified Walkie-Talkie – get a newer model
This item is simply a walkie-talkie that locates others of its own kind and shows you your position relating to dots (waypoints). No maps. No elevation graphics. Not even roads. I’m sure the newer models are much better, but how hi-tech can something be when it only has one Meg of on board memory. I had no idea an item from 2006 could be so outdated by now. This would only be useful for locating others in a hunting party who also have a rino. My nuvi auto gps does more on the trail than this does. I’m a hiker and I’m pretty sorry I wasted three years worth of my wife’s safety incentive points on this thing. I will try to send it back, but I may be stuck with a huge digital compass that runs on 3 AAs.

3 Stars Not sure about this unit !
I thought this is what I wanted, now I’m not so sure.

I bought it for a few reasons;

I sail and wanted to be able to call for help if I needed to but there is no chanel 16 (help channel)on this unit.

I also wanted the gps so I could find my way back in the fog. despite reading the two booklets and playing with the unit I’m still cant seem to figure out how to use it.

So, I’m now looking for a proper marine radio so I can call for help.

I guess this old sea dog is just too old to figure out this new tech stuff

4 Stars Good product but not really waterproof
I used the Rino attached to my harness when windsurfing. This allows me to both stay in contact with a buddy and see what speeds I reached. It works very well and the interface is easy to master. However, Garmin overpromised on the waterproofness of the product. The battery compartment caught some water which I discovered after a few days. Luckily it only damaged the batteries and not the device itself. Next time I will seal it with an aquapac which will give it a second layer of protection.

5 Stars RE: Warning: Rino should not be used in Iraq
For anyone concerned about giving away a position in Iraq, why not go into the radio setup menu, disable the “Send Location” feature under the Send Location tab, and disable position polling under the Allow Polling tab? If these features are disabled, the Rino will not send its position when the radio is keyed. People really should read their user manuals.

I’ve used one of these GPS units for the past couple of years, and have used several others including the III+ and the eTrex and the GPS 12 is by the the winner if you want a unit that will hold the satellites when you are travelling through dense trees and foliage. It is a great unit that is simple to use and program, if you want a solid performer this is it.

I have had a GPS 12 since about 1996 and used it extensively without any problems. It is a great, solid, reliable unit. I have mountain biked, hiked, drove, geocached and backpacked with it.

I heartily recommend it to anyone needing a good basic GPS.

My only complaint about it is the battery compartment isn’t waterproof. This has never been a problem for me, even in the rain, but it seems it would have been simple to make it so it could handle accidental submersion better.

Now I am handing it down as I have recently received a Foretrex 101 for Christmas and love it even more, and it cost even less.

I’ve owned this unit for several years, as a truck driver I can say it’s held up better than me.

It has a standard NEMA 2.0 interface output, so most quaility mapping programs will accept the data.

It’s small size makes it very portable, and battery powered is a plus. I’ve found that 2400mAh rechargable AA work well over a day, not using the power saving feature.

And it’s actually gone up in value since I bought it !!

I’ve seen a lot of the newer GPS’s on the market, haven’t seen a reason to get one of them. The Garmin 12 will download and upload waypoints and all the rest, you just have to search for the software on the internet.

3 Stars Old Reliable (but old)
The Garmin GPS12 is a very reliable, durable unit, perfect for the person who doesn’t need mapping capability, a color screen, or downloading capabilities. Its functions are easy to understand and use. And, after 5 years of use primarily in a boat, I can say first-hand that its very well contructed and durable.

Although this unit was once the class of handhelds, its now old technology and has some downside compared to newer models. Its battery use is plain awful–it burns through batteries very quickly with conntinual use. Its also relatively slow to get a lock on satellites, if you’ve moved 50 or more miles since its been turned on last. You also need to be stopped (or close to it) for it to lock on to satellites. Its also slow to update your position compared to newer units–not ideal for navigation at speed.

So the GPS12 is no longer a 5 start pick, but if you’re just looking to mark a few points and don’t want to pay high-dollars for features you’ll likely never use, this is a very well made, reasonably priced unit.

5 Stars Very reliable and accurate
I have used this unit for VFR navigation in my aircraft for the last 8 years. Prior to this unit, I had a Lowrance. This unit is much better than the Lowarance.

You can get the location for all of the nav-aids and the airports on line, and enter them yourself. It is easy.

After using VOR’s, and then a King Loran for years, this unit is all you need. Though not suggested, I believe you could shoot a instrument approach (GPS or NDB). Really good CDI screen. I actually have two, and use one as a cheap DME in ORD airspace!
