Product worked great – slid the chip into my Garmin and put 2000 miles on the rental car driving around Ireland.

Amazon had a great price for this chip. It was approximately half the price on the Garmin site. The GPS did recalculate occasionally, but this was not a big issue. This beat the heck out of trying to read a map of the tiny little roads in the irish coutryside (with surprisingly fast speed limits). I recommend this product.

4 Stars Plug & Play for Ireland
We recently went to Ireland for 7 days and relied upon our Garmin as we toured in a rental car. The roads are not always well-marked and the UK/Ireland Plug & Play saved the day more than once. Be aware that there are times you wind up “recalculating” more than you want, and some of the newest motorways are not on this version but all-in-all money well spent!

5 Stars My Ireland trip
I just got back from my trip in Ireland. I was a little worried that this chip would get lost in some of the remote Irish areas. Luckily, I was wrong. I went to, and everything in between, Limerick City, Kilkenny, Ferbane, Galway City, Clifden, Westport, & Drumshanbo. In total, I drove 974.5 km (?? in miles) and I didn’t get lost once (ok, I missed one turn). You have to keep 2 things in mind – there are new highways/roads in the process of being built and address’ are very vague in Ireland – don’t fault the chip for that.

I considered this chip more useful and valuable than my passport. If I didn’t have this, I would have been up a creek. It’s also useful when walking through a city like Galway, instead of holding a gigantic map in front of you. Plus, you can zoom in on a town or city and see points of interest (hotels, eating, attractions, etc.).

No regrets and plenty of great memories thanks to this chip. Skip the paper maps. You’ll get around and find your way with this thing.

5 Stars Worked Well for Us
Just as advertised, you pop the SD card into the SD slot on your Garmin, and lo and behold, suddenly you can see all the streets in the entire UK (England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales… am I missing anything?). Someone commented that they thought their Garmin was a little slower when reading the maps from the card instead of the internal memory – that may be true, but I couldn’t really tell since we were moving so slowly that it kept up with our needs.

3 Stars BUYER BEWARE: MEXICO MAPS VERY VERY SPARSE
We just received this GPS. We ordered this specific GPS because it has maps of Mexico. HOWEVER . . . While a fine GPS that seems to function just as it should, and this GPS does indeed have what GPS maps for Mexico are available — BUYER BEWARE! . . . Garmin’s maps of Mexico are SPARSE. We’ll be staying on the Riviera Maya in a touristy town listed in every guidebook — it’s not even ON the GPS map! We were hoping to take the with us so that we could day-trip and explore — not going to be possible this way!

So, just know what you’re buying. We thought we did. Oh well.

5 Stars Nice GPS for Cheap!!!
I want to further comment on the Nuvi 200. I just received this as a X-mas gift and am very happy with it. Great unit for such a great price. I think the best feature is the ‘recalculate’ feature. When putting in an address and make a wrong turn, the Nuvi is great and FAST at recalculating directions within a second or two once making a wrong turn. I was surprised for a $100 unit, how incredibly quick it got me turned around and/or found a new route to my destination.

4 Stars Great Product for this Price
After using it for several month, I am satisfied with this product. However, the only downside has to be the acquiring satellite time, which can take up to 10 mins especially during weekends. If you don’t mind sitting inside your car waiting for a signal during hot summer or cold winter, then this is a great product for you. On the other hand, a TOMTOM GPS usually takes less than 30 secs to acquire satellite. Nevertheless, the TOMTOM does very bad in telling directions (When I say very bad, I meant it). Overall, I think this small GPS indeed worth the original price. After using both Garmin GPS and TOMTOM GPS, I would recommend the Garmin ones because they are dsigned to give drivers an accurate dirction, which TOMTOM GPS falls way behind.

P.S. The car mount that included in this package was very easy to use and I loved it!

4 Stars Works Well, Simple, Cheap, Portable, Refurb
Needed GPS for occasional use – most have fixed batteries don’t want too much committed. Had seen my son use his and went after the least-expensive model. It does quite well, generally finding satellites in a couple of minutes outside, especially if you had let it track to where you now are. Doesn’t come with printed manual (not even when new), but can download PDF from Garmin – it has a “quick-start” leaflet. Registering it with Garmin got an immediate, free F/W update. Device attaches to computer (and charges) through normal mini-USB cord, showing as storage device. Update was a bit of a problem because device did not have enough free memory. It seemed to not be able to use the SD card I had added, so deleted a number of other language files: Finish, Norwegian, etc. which freed enough to work. Don’t know what happens in future updates. Away from charging, battery lasts a couple of hours.

If you deviate from route it furnished, it first warns and tries to get you back to it, but then starts recalculating without manual intervention, accomodating what you may have chosen from better knowledge.

I like the voice prompts, my son doesn’t. Generally position it on gear-shift console and bring it in out of the cold. Suggest you use it oven known routes to get yourself familiar with device before you really need it! If it’s being handled, lock it so touching the screen doesn’t modify your settings. Seems capable of only one Waypoint (Viapoint) per destination.

I have used this item for several weeks after I relocated temporarily to Dallas and I can not say enough good about this unit. This receiver/antenna option is great. It gives me the weather, shows where the traffic slow downs are, movie times and where they are playing, etc. It does have a lag ans sometimes it just doesn’t work for my area. But over time it picks up and shows everything again. Showing the gas prices can save enough over a year to pay for itself.

4 Stars Great choice in an all-around GPS receiver
I bought the Nuvi 500 to replace my tried-and-true Garmin StreetPilot i3.

One of my primary considerations is WATERPROOFness… my i3 has worked great on my MOTORCYCLE touring adventures, but when the rains came, it was either in the tank bag, or in a clear sandwich bag, held in place with a rubber band – not ideal.

There are motorcycle-specific GPS receivers, but they are all significantly more expensive. Frankly, I was attracted to the multi-purpose nature of this model. I’ve used it for motorcycle rides (just trial runs so far), bicycling, hiking/walking, and driving. I’m confident there are better solutions for each individual use – if you can afford a CAR GPS, and a HIKING GPS, and a MOTORCYCLING GPS, and a BOATING GPS, knock yourself out. The Nuvi 500 seems to do a very adequate job at all of that stuff.

Another feature I was looking for – and the Nuvi 500 has it – is the ability to enter a very specific ROUTE into it, and expect accurate directions. (When I’m motorcycle touring, it’s all about the JOURNEY, not the DESTINATION. I want to plan the journey, rather than leaving it to GPS-receiver silicon. I could plan my routes using the i3, but it was a matter of entering up to 50 waypoints, and then selecting each one in sequence. Now I can just tell it to “follow route Day 2,” and off we go.)

It has “modes” for automobile, bicycle, boating, and walking. (With a myriad of avatar options… when you’re hiking, you can use some little blue trudging feet to indicate your current location. Cute!) Also, with a firmware upgrade (readily available at the Garmin website) you can add “Scooter” mode. (I’m guessing they don’t have a “Motorcycle” mode for it, because they hope motorcycle riders will opt instead for the significantly-more-pricey Zumo models. But how different could “motorcycle” and “scooter” be, other than the gay factor? That’s just a joke… scooters are great!)

This model doesn’t have some of the other features found on a lot of high-end models. If you want a unit that speaks street names, or plays your MP3 tunes, or doubles as a cell phone or bluetooth… this may not be the one for you.

My only suggestion for Garmin would be – add a place to attach a lanyard/safety-tether! It would be nice, particularly when hiking, to be able to hang this around the neck, or attach it to a backpack with a carabiner. (Or to safety-strap it to the bicycle or motorcycle!)

Based on my experience, Garmin is VERY oriented toward customer service and satisfaction. They have bent over backwards to keep THIS customer happy. (That’s a nice bonus to the fact that they make an excellent product.)

I bought this GPS system for a friend who travels on business. He brought it with him when we went skiing. We found it to be easy to use, with a very clear screen. It’s completely portable which is very handy if you have more than one vehicle. The audio comments can be turned on or off. We would highly recommend this GPS system.

I puchased this unit for mountain biking as well as driving. I am happy to say that it does both very well. The mapping is great. It’s waterproof. I couldn’t be happier with the unit.

5 Stars Garmin 500 – Very Nice
The Nuvi 500 hundred works very well in the car and on the trail. The “Where Am I” function is very useful for saving the current location or for finding near by intersections and emergency services. The included topo maps are great for hiking and driving. I bought the Nuvi 500 because I like to hike and sometimes I need to drive to a coordinate instead of an address (rural locations or geocaching). The detail is amazing. If you need a multifunction GPS, I would give the Nuvi 500 a try.

4 Stars Works great for geocaching
The unit works almost flawlessly for geocaching. I found one gpx file that causes the unit to power off when you try to navigate to the cache. Garmin is aware of the problem and is working on a fix. However, this happened only once so far…but I can’t give it 5 stars until garmin resolves it.

The paperless geocaching is a nice feature. You can use other nuvis for geocaching, but this one makes it easy to view caches. Using garmin’s communicator, you can d/l caches to your unit. You then can view the cache info, such as difficulty, terrain, hints and such. The geocaches show up on your map while driving, so you can observe caches nearby.

Definitely upgrade your firmware — it fixes some bugs. Accuracy seems pretty good (depends on # of satellites available). Several times, the compass told us we were 1 ft away — and we were! Usually it gets us within 10 ft.

Works great in the car too! The 3.5″ screen seem fine. Just wish it spoke street names (and a strap to make it easy to carry when geocaching).

All in all, we’re happy with the unit.

Great unit. Does everything I need and more. I got a good start on using it with just the quickstart guide. It connects to a PC using the Waypoint software that comes with it and with Googleearth Plus. 1 Star Piece of JUNK!
The maps that come with this unit are wortless. If you want good maps, be prepared to shell out $100. My biggest gripe is that my GPS WILL NOT talk to my computer! That makes it IMPOSSIBLE to load my $100 maps. I tried to connect to both of my PCs at home AND my PC at work. All came up with the same message – USB Device Not Recognized. My friend in Utah has the same problem – and a bad temper. He threw his Garmin against the wall and killed it. He bought a Magellan and is very happy with it.

I would have rated it ZERO stars if the option had been available. I will NEVER buy anything from Garmin again!

I’ve contacted Garmin NUMEROUS times and they are no help at all – and have completely ignored me for the past month or so.

1 Star Unclear instructions & unavailable service
I returned this product for a full refund due to unclear instructions and no repsonse from customer service. The instructions provided in the owner’s manual on entering bearing and distance to find a new waypoint were unclear. I was unable to reach the Garmin customer service via email (maybe their server was down) or by phone. I tried to phone them 2 or 3 times during business hours and was unsuccessful in reaching a person. I wanted to enter coordinates, latitude and longitude, to find a new location and was disappointed that I never found out if this product could do this or not. Also, I was unable to enter a bearing and a distance to find a new location.

This is a great carrying case for my Garmin GPS. I really love the pink lining, which makes it much easier to find inside my purse. I would have liked the case to be about 1/2″ longer. My GPS hangs out about that far, and that part of the screen isn’t protected. But, it helps with removing the GPS from the case. Aside from the length, it does what I need it to do, and I’m happy with it.

1 Star Screen Brightness Unacceptable.
I’m not pampered! Screen is absolutely not bright enough in sunlight. I had one and returned it. Search the web it is the number one complaint. It would be a great unit if the screen was readable outside in the sun and had a 3 Axis compass.

bought the oregon and the city navigator software and set out on a 4500 mile hunting/sightseeing trip. I did need some help from the garmin folks to get it set up, but after this small headache I found the 400 to be a superb on and off road navigator. It’s everything I had hoped it would be. I threw my magellan away. If you buy the mounting device for your vehicle expect it to work but you will have trouble with the power cord. It’s not made for the 400 but you can buy it and go by wal-mart or target and buy a power cord for a verizon phone and it will work perfectly. After driving 4500 miles and days hunting in Colorado I have not one complaint with the device. It performed superbly for me. I was told by a retail store sales rep to get two devices and not try to use the 400 for street navigating but being the cheapskate that I am, I tried it to save money and clutter and it proved to be a great decision.

4 Stars Battery life not what I expected
Advertised as “Battery Average Life: 16 Hours”

I’m just learning how to use this new toy. But it seems I don’t have it on very long (maybe two hours)and the battery bar drops to the halfway point. I have new, fully charged batteries in it. I’m afraid to trust it, if when I need it to find my way home…the batteries are dead!

4 Stars Leap ahead
I’ve been using an E Trex for over a decade, that was first generation. I finally broke open the wallet and sprung for the Oregon 400T. It’s great. Yes the screen could use being brighter, and a couple times I had trouble with the software getting it to realize I was no longer trying to get to an earlier destination. But overall it’s such a pleasure to use. Was hunting in the woods in rain and snow, yet it always acquired, and usually very quickly. Tricky to use the touch screen with gloves on, but still far better then the button interface on the old E Trex. The installed 100,000 maps were surprisingly good, had all the hills, rivers and ponds where I hunt, even the larger logging roads. Surprisingly good topo detail too. I may never need the 1:20,000 Maps I was looking forward to buying. This is truly a third generation GPS, and the touch screen interface has finally brought potable electronics into the category of user friendly.

Now if it only had an option under “go to” of: “Cute Boyfriend.”

4 Stars Great GPS……..but
I am stoked about this new GPSr! The last GPS I owned was a Magallen Meridian Gold. It was also a great unit but with all the new technology coming out I decided to take the leap and try a new Oregon. I have never owned a Garmin but we use them at work so I am familiar with there operation. And since Magellan seems to be in “self-destruct” mode I figured buying a Garmin was a better bet than risking buying from a company that seems to be failing miserably. The operation of the Oregon is outstanding! It is easy to use, and I am excited that it does both regular off-raod navigation and turn-by-turn (with the proper maps). And that brings me to the only negative thing I have to say about the unit. The base map is HORRIBLE!! The mapping software that I had for my Magellan was 10 times better than Garmins. I purchased the Oregon in early December and noticed that the base map is rather inaccurate on locations of roads and in some cases (such as the subdivision I live in) the roads don’t even exist! This subdivision has been here for more than three years and NONE of the roads are on the base map. The most flagrant inaccuracy is a road down the street from our house that shows a disconnect from the main highway. While that road WAS disconnected from the highway, it was 13 years ago! For a GPS unit that is brand new I am rather disappointed that Garmin has not done a better job on keeping up on there map software. It makes me a little “gun-shy” about buying any of there mapping software out of fear that $[...] later I will be just as disappointed with the lack of detail and accuracy in those maps. But we shall see. So in conclusion, other than the base map on this unit, the GPS itself is awesome and I highly reccommend it. The base map problems is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5 stars.

1 Star Careless misrepresentation
As with at least one other reviewer, found this to be incompatible with a C-series Garmin: c530. Now need to get refund, return, on a $20 item, as a consequence of a marketing hotshot’s inattention to specifications.

3 Stars You don’t need it
I don’t know why you would need this. We ordered it and only used it one time. After figuring out how to use our Garmin we discovered that our model does not hold a charge, thus we cannot carry it around and use it. To use it as a GPS, it has to be in a car and plugged into the outlet there. You wouldn’t really have a need to have your GPS plugged in at your home, because it isn’t moving and cannot function.

Sometimes I have needed to charge my Garmin Street Pilot 530 and had been taking it out to the car for charging prior to leaving. Now I can just plug it in and be assured it (GPS) is properly charged and is ready to take me to my destination. This product does exactly as advertised.
